Border Authorities Seize Over 2,500 Liters of Fuel at Cunene-Namibia Border

Cunene: Border Police (PGF) successfully thwarted a major fuel smuggling operation along the border between the southern Province of Cunene and the Republic of Namibia. A total of 2,550 liters of gasoline and diesel, intended for illegal sale in Namibia, were confiscated. According to Angola Press News Agency, the operation, which took place between July 12th and August 12th, involved the fuel being stored in 25-liter drums. Superintendent Lino Epalanga, the PGF spokesperson in Cunene, disclosed that in addition to the fuel, four vehicles were seized for their involvement in the smuggling activities. The smugglers allegedly utilized hidden routes through wooded areas to transport the fuel across the border. The PGF's efforts also led to the confiscation of 60 bags of used clothing and 30 cartons of "Yes" cigarettes, among other domestic products. Superintendent Epalanga urged local traditional authorities to discourage citizens from hiding illegal activities and using quimbos, or traditional residences, as storage for smuggled goods. Epalanga affirmed the PGF's commitment to monitoring and protecting the 460-km long border, which includes 340 km of land and 120 km of river, to prevent fuel smuggling, goods trafficking, and cross-border crime.
