Luanda: Projects related to the Lobito Corridor master plan and Angola's economic diversification were central to a high-level interministerial round table on Thursday. The gathering in Luanda brought together members of the Angolan Government and representatives from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the meeting, which occurred behind closed doors, was part of the visit of IFC's General Director, Makhtar Diop, to Angola. The discussions covered productive sectors like agriculture and tourism, aiming to align strategies that could accelerate initiatives developed by the Angolan government in partnership with the IFC. Minister of Transport Ricardo de Abreu noted that the conversation included support for the national private business sector along the Lobito Corridor.
Electricity distribution and support for accelerating agriculture, with a focus on food security, were also analyzed. Ricardo de Abreu highlighted that IFC reiterated its continuous support for Angola and the fulfillment of established goals.
In addition to his participation in the high-level round table, Makhtar Diop was received by Angolan President Joo Louren§o. Diop's visit to Angola, which began last Tuesday, aims to identify opportunities in agribusiness, industrialization, and real estate sectors to support economic diversification.
On Friday, Makhtar Diop plans to visit the province of Benguela to learn more about the Lobito Corridor and the activities of the Carrinho business group. IFC, as a member of the World Bank Group, stands as the largest global development institution dedicated to the private sector in emerging markets, operating in over 100 countries. In fiscal 2025, IFC committed a record $71.7 billion to private companies and financial institutions in developing countries.
