Local elections to be held in 2155 electoral constituencies (ISIE)

President of the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE), Farouk Bouasker, said that the ISIE is in the process of setting the boundaries of the delegations in preparation for the local elections which should probably take place in 2155 constituencies.

Bouasker was speaking on the sidelines of a national forum held Thursday in Tunis by the Elections Authority on the territorial delimitation of local electoral districts and the means of registering voters there.

He said that the members of the local councils will be elected in the territorial sectors (imada) of the same electoral district which must have at least five imadas.

Farouk Bouasker stressed that the Presidency of the Republic will issue a decree on the territorial distribution of imadas.

The territorial distribution is the starting point of this electoral process which represents “a difficult challenge” given the volume of data and factors to be taken into consideration, he said.

In the same context, the executive director of the ISIE, Ridha Missaoui, presented the authority’s plan concerning the territorial delimitation of electoral districts for local elections.

This plan is based on two axes, he explained, the first concerns the administrative map of the Tunisian Republic and the second consists of the registration of voters in the constituencies according to their addresses.

Missaoui said that this project will be implemented in collaboration with the Ministries of Interior and National Defense, and the National Center for Cartography and Remote Sensing.
