Luanda Records Reduction in Workplace Accidents

Luanda: The General Labor Inspectorate (IGT) recorded 568 workplace accidents in the Province of Luanda in the first half of this year, compared to 1,794 in the same period in 2024, representing a decrease of 1,226 cases. According to Angola Press News Agency, the information was revealed on Wednesday by Vilma Matias, head of the statistics, auditing, and certification department of the Ministry of Public Administration, Employment, and Social Security. The reduction in workplace accidents was attributed to compliance with occupational health and safety laws and regulations, which include the adoption of preventive measures and the employer's responsibility to ensure a safe environment. Matias emphasized the need for continued strengthening of employee protection and safety measures to prevent excessively high levels of violations. She noted that most accidents recorded by the agency in the first half of 2025 occurred in construction, oil, and industrial companies and were minor, with only eleven being fat al. In cases of workplace accidents, employers are responsible for the damages and must submit an incident report to the IGT. The General Labor Inspectorate, an agency within the Ministry of Public Administration, Employment, and Social Security, is tasked with monitoring, informing, and guiding those involved in employment relationships regarding regulatory conditions. The IGT operates with technical autonomy and independence, and its staff possesses the powers of public authority.
