Brussels: President Joo Lourenço, who also serves as the Chairman of the African Union, departed from the country's capital on Wednesday, heading to Brussels, Belgium, to participate in the second edition of the Global Gateway Forum. He was seen off by Vice President Esperança da Costa and other government officials. According to Angola Press News Agency, the event is scheduled for Thursday, where President Joo Lourenço will represent the African Union. He is set to speak alongside notable global leaders, including Ursula Von Der Leyen, the Chairwoman of the European Commission. The Global Gateway Forum, an initiative by the European Union, aims to bolster strategic connections with different regions worldwide, focusing on partnerships in education, health, energy, digitalization, and scientific research, all directed towards sustainable and inclusive growth. The forum is anticipated to bring together heads of state and government, along with representatives from multilateral organizations, financial instit utions, and the private sector. Participants are expected to engage in discussions about the opportunities and challenges of global partnerships within the current geopolitical landscape.
