Minister praises works progress on energy sector

Saurimo – The Minister of Energy and Water João Baptista Borges Thursday in Saurimo, eastern Lunda Sul province, said that he was pleased with the progress of works in progress in the energy sector and requested greater speed from contractors in their conclusion.

The official, who is on six-hour visit to Lunda Sul, assessed the state of the works underway in Saurimo.

He visited solar park project with a 61 percent physical execution, which, after its completion will benefit around 49.000 inhabitants.

With 44,850 panels, the project built in an area of 65 hectares, will be delivered in April 2024.

Angola has seven projects in the provinces of Lunda-Norte, Lunda-Sul, Moxico, Benguela, Bié and Huambo.

The authorities predict that solar energy will benefit around 1.2 million families across the country, with a view to promoting access to clean and cheap electricity.

João Borges announced that the Ministry will continue to closely monitor all the works underway in the provinces of Lunda Sul and Lunda Norte.

During his stay in Saurimo, the minister visited the works of Luachimo water treatment plant, as well as the Nhama and Txicumina photovoltaic and thermal plants, respectively.
