Luanda: The Minister of Foreign Affairs, T©te Ant³nio, highlighted on Tuesday in Luanda the historical importance of the Bicesse Process for understanding the path to peacebuilding in Angola and strengthening the commitment to preserving national stability. Speaking at the opening of the international conference commemorating the 35th anniversary of the 1991 Bicesse Accords, held at the 'VenSncio de Moura' Diplomatic Academy, the minister stressed that remembering Bicesse is to keep alive a reference point for political dialogue and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the minister also referred to the current international context, marked by geopolitical tensions and conflicts in various regions of the world, arguing that Angola's experience of negotiation and reconciliation should serve as an example for promoting diplomacy and understanding between peoples. He emphasized that peace must be continuously cultivated and transmitted to new generations as a collective and non-negotiable good.
On that occasion, the Director-General of the Diplomatic Academy, Ambassador Jos© Marcos Barrica, stated that the conference aimed to preserve the historical memory of the peace process and to value the testimonies of the protagonists of the negotiations. The meeting was attended by the former mediator of the Angolan peace process, the Portuguese Jos© Manuel Duro Barroso, who is in the country and participated in the launch of a work dedicated to the Bicesse Accords, whose ceremony took place this Tuesday, under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting was also attended by the Vice-President of the National Assembly, Arlete Chimbinda, as well as members of the Executive, deputies, diplomats and academics. The conference also included cultural moments and reflections on the lasting impact of the Bicesse Accords, considered a fundamental step on the path to peace achieved in 2002.
