Ministry of Environment Creates Over 3,000 Jobs Nationwide

Luanda: The Ministry of the Environment has successfully generated more than 3,000 jobs across the country over the last five years, attributed to the implementation of robust management policies, stated Nascimento Soares, the Secretary of State for Climate Action and Sustainable Development, during a recent New Year's greeting event.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Soares attributed this achievement to the establishment of 401 recycling points, the completion of a sanitary landfill in the province of Namibe, and the development of infrastructure for waste recovery and treatment. Soares emphasized that the nation currently boasts over 450 licensed companies, 80 associations and cooperatives of waste pickers, and a waste reuse rate that ranges from seven to 10 percent, marking a notable progression in the circular economy.

The official further noted the issuance of 793 environmental licenses this year to industries involved in energy, agriculture, infrastructure, and mineral resources, alongside more than 5,600 awareness-raising initiatives. He also highlighted the sustainable charcoal project, which has positively impacted around 35,000 individuals through the planting of 50,000 trees, the distribution of 10,000 improved stoves, and the production of 400 efficient ovens.

In the realm of biodiversity, Soares announced that Angola has established 14 environmental conservation areas, encompassing national parks, nature reserves, and the nation's inaugural protected marine area in Namibe. He underscored the creation of new ecologically significant areas in 2025, such as Morro do Moco and Serra do Pingano, which bolster the protection of unique habitats and endemic species.
