MPLA at SI Africa Committee meeting in Dakar

Luanda – A delegation of the ruling MPLA party has been in Dakar, Senegal, since Friday (28) to attend the Socialist International Africa Committee to discuss, among other issues, the current challenges for democracy and the functioning of institutions on the African continent.

Headed by the Secretary of the MPLA Political Bureau for International Relations, Manuel Augusto, the delegation comprises former Secretary General of the party and current Vice President of the Socialist International, Julião Mateus Paulo “Dino Matross”.

The meeting will also address the prevention of the conflict and peacekeeping on the continent.

The event, set to run until Sunday (30), will also serve to prepare African participation in the next SI Congress, scheduled for November this year in Madrid, Spain.

SI is an international organisation seeking to disseminate and implement democratic socialism, through the union of social democratic, socialist and labour political parties.

Si was founded in 1951 under the name International Workers and Socialists. Currently it has 160 parties from more than 100 countries. It is one of the largest party organisations in activity.
