National Electoral Commission President Urges Provincial Officials to Act with Transparency

Luanda: The president of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), Manuel Pereira da Silva, urged the new leaders of the Provincial Electoral Commissions on Tuesday to base their actions on transparency, integrity, and a high sense of responsibility. Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony for the presidents of the provincial commissions, Pereira da Silva instructed those taking office to act based on technical competence, a culture of institutional consensus, and cooperation among CNE members.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Silva emphasized that citizens' trust in electoral institutions depends on the quality of decisions and the conduct of their leaders. He noted that the consolidation of democracy requires strong and reliable institutions, capable of acting with professionalism and a sense of state. Silva expressed confidence in the ability of those taking office to perform their new functions and asked the reappointed presidents to support the integration of those responsible for conducting electoral processes for the first time.

The official highlighted that 2026 constitutes a pre-election year, a period in which the CNE has begun preparations for the holding of the coming elections. "We have the team assembled. Now it's time to roll up our sleeves and continue the work," he said. Manuel Pereira da Silva swore in the presidents of the 21 Provincial Electoral Commissions.

The National Electoral Commission is the independent constitutional body responsible for the organization, coordination, execution, and conduct of electoral processes in Angola.
