Luanda: The National Institute for the Fight against AIDS (INLS) on Thursday honored Angola's Vice President, Esperan§a da Costa, and the First Lady, Ana Dias Louren§o, during a ceremony marking the institute's 20th anniversary. The celebration acknowledged their efforts in the prevention and combating of HIV/AIDS in the country.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the tribute highlighted Ana Dias Louren§o's implementation of the "Born Free to Shine" national campaign, which was initiated in December 2018 in Luena, Moxico Province. This campaign aims to reduce mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS, addressing critical issues faced by African nations and reinforcing their political commitment to decreasing maternal and child mortality rates.
Currently, the program supports more than 3,000 women across Angola, emphasizing the importance of sustained efforts in combating the spread of HIV/AIDS. During the event, Health Minister Slvia Lutucuta and Education Minister Lusa Grilo were also acknowledged for their significant contributions to the fight against the disease.
