New Route to Guangzhou Boosts Angola’s Global Integration

Luanda: Angola's Transport Minister Ricardo de Abreu highlighted on Tuesday the importance of the air link between Angola and China (Guangzhou city) as it represents another step towards integrating the African country into global dynamics, creating better conditions to support economic diversification, attract investment, and increase competitiveness in the national territory.

According to Angola Press News Agency, speaking at the official launch ceremony of the link between the province of Icolo e Bengo and the city of Guangzhou, the minister said the new route is part of the strategic vision that the government has been developing for the transport and logistics sector, in building a new regional positioning for Angola.

The minister said the connection with Guangzhou will bring Africa closer to Asia and increase the country's international connectivity, create new possibilities for transit and regional interconnection, and strengthen the ambition to transform the international airport into an important connection point between different global economic corridors.

He added that the launch of this route is based on the integration of airport, port, rail, and logistics infrastructure, a fact that creates the conditions for the country to cease being just a destination and establish itself as a regional and intercontinental connection platform.

The minister said the choice of Guangzhou is due to it being one of the largest industrial, commercial, and logistics centers in the world, strategic for global supply chains.

Ricardo de Abreu reaffirmed the government's attention to the transformation process of the TAAG, which involves fleet modernization, operational reinforcement, improvement of service standards, greater management discipline, and sustainable expansion of international connectivity.

The minister expressed that the launch of this route is a sign of confidence in the company's future, in Angola's economic potential, and in the strengthening of commercial and cultural ties between the two peoples.

The minister said the opening of this air channel represents a concrete step in deepening relations between Angola and China, long-standing strategic partners. He stated that in 2025, the volume of trade between the two countries reached approximately 20.8 billion US dollars, confirming the relevance of the partnership.

He added that bilateral relations are now entering a new phase, in which cooperation is progressively shifting from being focused solely on infrastructure financing to incorporating productive investment, logistics, technology, industrialization, value chains, and business mobility.
