Norway Eyes Angola for Tourism and Food Import Partnerships

Lubango: The ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Angola, Bjonar Dahl Hotvedt, expressed his country's interest in forming partnerships with Angola in the tourism and food import sectors during a meeting in Lubango. The discussion took place with Hula's governor, Nuno Mahapi, as part of a joint mission with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

According to Angola Press News Agency, the ambassador noted that while Norway and Angola already cooperate extensively in various sectors, there are additional economic interests that Norway aims to pursue. Highlighting the challenges posed by Norway's climate, where only 3% of the land is arable, Hotvedt pointed out the country's reliance on food imports. He suggested that Angola, with its fertile lands and abundant water resources, including those in Hula, could be a future partner in meeting Norway's demand for fruits, meats, and vegetables.

Bjonar Dahl Hotvedt emphasized the strong trade and economic relations between the two nations, underscoring the 'excellent' collaboration in oil and natural gas production and export. He mentioned the presence of numerous Norwegian companies in Angola's oil sector, which contribute to the country's production by providing skills and technology transfer.

The ambassador also remarked on the importance of the Angolan government's commitment to opening an embassy in Oslo, which has been operational since 2024. This move is seen as a vital step in enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

In response, Nuno Mahapi lauded the ambassador's visit as a significant opportunity to establish robust partnerships aimed at finding joint solutions, affirming the province's openness to such collaborations.

The Norwegian Embassy in Angola was established in 1998. Development cooperation in Angola through the Embassy focuses largely on the area of human rights, and the main objective of the Embassy is to promote Norwegian economic and political interests in Angola.
