Nyeri Finance Bill 2023 Signed Into Law

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has signed into law the Nyeri County Finance Bill, 2023, which aims at providing for the amendment of the Nyeri County Revenue Administration ACT, 2014, in relation to taxes, fees, and charges for various services and other revenue-raising measures. Speaking after signing the bill into law, the county boss said the Bill will help to realise the targeted Sh1.3 billion in revenues in the financial year 2023-2024, inclusive of revenue expected to be raised from the Nyeri County Health Services Fund. He said a few amendments were carried out to broaden the streams of revenue; however, current rates will not be increased. The governor added that the revenue raised will ensure that Nyeri residents enjoy the fruits of devolution since the money will be ploughed back to render essential services. Kahiga noted that the Executive and the County Assembly harmoniously worked together towards the fruition of the Finance Bill. He thanked the Assembly for passing the Bill, saying it was a show of their commitment to serving the people of Nyeri. The Speaker of Nyeri County Assembly, James Gichuhi, lauded the cordial working relationship between the Executive and the Assembly, adding that the Assembly has complied with all statutory regulations, including conducting public participation, to ensure that what has been achieved in the Bill emanates from the people. The Finance Committee Chairman, who was also present, Atanasio Wakabaire, noted that after free and fair public participation, they have achieved a friendly finance bill, which will benefit Nyeri residents immensely. The bill will now proceed to the Government Printer for gazettement in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and the County Governments Act, 2012, in order to take legal effect. Among those who witnessed the signing of the bill were Deputy Governor David Kinaniri, Nyeri Finance County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Robert Thuo, and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).
