Luanda: The Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, highlighted on Monday in Luanda the brotherhood and ties of cooperation and friendship between the peoples of Angola and Cape Verde, evident in the celebrations of that country's 50th anniversary of independence.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Carolina Cerqueira, upon her return from Cape Verde, emphasized the strong connection between the two nations, rooted in kinship, common history, and the shared struggle for freedom. Her remarks were made at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, where she noted the vibrant democracy on display during the various speeches at the Evocative Session and the main event held in the National Assembly of Cape Verde.
The celebrations marked Cape Verde's historical journey over five decades, underscoring its achievements in the economic, political, and democratic arenas. The Angolan delegation, led by Cerqueira, included notable figures such as Justino Pinto de Andrade, 4th Vice-President of the National Assembly, Jos© Semedo, and Sara Fialho.
Cape Verde declared independence on July 5, 1975, ending Portuguese colonial rule in a ceremony at the V¡rzea Stadium. The anniversary celebrations provided a platform for the Angolan delegation to engage with other high-level delegations, fostering interaction and exchange on topics of mutual interest. These discussions aimed at strengthening parliamentary diplomacy to promote and preserve peace, social welfare, and global economic progress.
