Luanda: The Transport Minister Ricardo Viegas D'Abreu assured on Monday in Luanda that work is being done with the various ministerial departments to align with operators to adjust transport price increases to users' capacity.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the assurance was given in response to the recent diesel price increase from 300 to 400 kwanzas. This announcement was made on the sidelines of the National Conference on Angola's Preparation for the International Maritime Organization (IMO) audit, where the transport minister emphasized that this is a coordinated action by the Executive.
The minister highlighted that fuel plays a crucial role in the transport cost structure. Consequently, efforts are being made to collaborate with operators to ensure that price adjustments do not heavily burden public urban transport users. Ricardo D'Abreu indicated that road and urban transport operators will have the ability to adjust their prices in line with the increased costs.
The Petroleum By-products Regulatory Institute (IRDP) noted that the retail price of diesel rose to 400.00 kwanzas per liter at midnight on July 4, 2025. However, retail prices for other products under a fixed price regime, such as gasoline, kerosene, and liquefied petroleum gas, remain unchanged.
According to the IRDP, the Angolan Executive has decided to gradually adjust the retail prices of petroleum products to align with market levels. This adjustment follows the Flexible Adjustment Mechanism and import or export parity, as outlined in Joint Executive Decree 81/23 of June 1.
