Partnership agreement between TAP and Palestinian news agency “Wafa” comes into force

Partnership and cooperation relations between the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) news agency and the Palestinian Press and Information Agency (WAFA) will now have a bright future following the entry into force of an agreement concluded, Thursday, between the two media.

The agreement was co-signed by CEO of TAP, Najeh Missaoui, and General Supervisor of the official Palestinian media and Director General of the Palestinian News Agency, Ahmed Assaf, in the presence of Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Tunisia, Hayel al-Fahoum.

Taking the floor, Assaf seized the opportunity to express the esteem and consideration that the Palestinian people have for Tunisia for its principled and firm stance towards the Palestinian cause, stressing that the signing of this agreement will enable Palestinian news to be transmitted from its source in accordance with the rules of objectivity and credibility.

On the Palestinian side, this agreement will enable the Palestinians to keep abreast of the latest developments on the Tunisian national scene.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two parties also agree to encourage as far as possible a continuous, real-time exchange of information as part of a trilingual edition in Arabic, French and English.

As part of this partnership, TAP and WAFA have also agreed to share, for free, captioned reportage photos and video footage relating the course of events on the Palestinian and Tunisian scenes, with the exclusive right to rebroadcast them via the various news platforms, including social media.

The agreement promises a totally free service, but with an obligation to source the information in accordance with journalistic ethics.

Also as part of the agreement, the two parties promise to guarantee a fluid exchange of news feeds using techniques for transmitting information via the Internet or any other similar means.

They also plan to organise programmes for the exchange of visits by executives working in the two agencies, in particular managers, journalists and technicians.

The agreement also provides for close cooperation and coordination between the two parties within the framework of the regional and multilateral professional organisations and international federations of which they are members throughout the five-year period of validity of the agreement.

The two parties also promise to pay particular and increased attention to the coverage of national festivals and events at local, regional and international levels.

In order to guarantee a continuous flow of information in real-time, the two parties are working to provide specialised technicians and engineers from both agencies to facilitate the process of connecting and exchanging news bulletins and multimedia content.
