Luvo: More than 30 tons of assorted goods destined for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) were seized at the Luvo border by the National Police in Zaire province.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the seized items included 251 sacks of table salt, 128 boxes of pasta, 37 sacks of rice, 33 sacks of corn flour, 329 bags of powdered detergent, and 120 cases of whisky, among other products. This was part of a police operation named "Conexo" (Connection).
The National Police spokesperson in Zaire, Superintendent Lus Bernardo, informed the press on Tuesday that the merchandise was being transported across the border via clandestine routes to evade customs duties at the Luvo border crossing. The operation involved personnel from the 3rd Border Guard Police Unit and occurred between June 6 and June 30.
Additionally, during the police crackdown, 1,675 liters of fuel destined for smuggling into the DRC were seized. The official called on residents in areas bordering the neighboring country to continue cooperating with the forces deployed along the border to help deter this practice.
The border town of Luvo is located 60 kilometers north of Mbanza Kongo, the capital of Zaire province.
