Luanda:According to Angola Press News Agency, President Joo Louren§o of Angola extended his congratulations to Chinese President Xi Jinping on the 77th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, which is celebrated on October 1st. In his message, President Louren§o acknowledged China's significant contributions over the years and emphasized its role in promoting a more inclusive global order.
President Louren§o highlighted China's efforts in fostering multilateralism and promoting a development model centered on human progress in economic, social, and technological fields. He also reiterated Angola's commitment to maintaining open communication with China to further enhance the friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
Diplomatic relations between Angola and China were established on January 12, 1983, and have since developed into a strategic partnership. This partnership was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership during President Louren§o's state visit to China in March 2024, marking a new phase in bilateral relations. Various agreements were signed in areas such as economy, trade, agriculture, green development, and infrastructure.
China has been instrumental in Angola's reconstruction and development, particularly in infrastructure, energy, transport, agriculture, education, health, and technology. The two countries have established economic and trade consultation mechanisms since the 1980s. China remains one of Angola's primary trading partners, with bilateral trade amounting to $20.83 billion in 2025.
In December 2024, China implemented zero-tariff treatment for Angola, covering 100% of the tariff lines under the measure. This cooperation aligns with Angola's economic diversification strategy, focusing on sectors like agriculture, industry, energy, and the digital economy.
Angola and China also collaborate on multilateral issues, advocating for the defense of multilateralism and supporting South-South cooperation. They have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their partnership and reforming international governance to benefit developing countries.
Cultural, scientific, technological, educational, and health exchanges are also part of their bilateral relations. Since 2009, China has dispatched five medical teams to Angola, comprising 70 professionals.
