Luanda: The presiding judge of the Supreme Court (TS), Norberto Joo, emphasized on Wednesday the importance of cooperation and dialogue between Angola's and Brazil's judicial systems in strengthening the rule of law. Speaking at the workshop, "The Judiciary in the Rule of Law: Dialogue between Brazil and Angola," the magistrate stated that strengthening the rule of law enhances institutions and allows for the sharing of experiences between the two magistracies, which have deep historical, legal, and cultural ties.
According to Angola Press News Agency, this dialogue is based on the existing instruments of cooperation between the two countries' supreme courts in the field of judicial training. These instruments have allowed for deeper sharing of experiences, institutional capacity building, and strengthening of jurisdictions. He remarked that the seminar provides an opportunity to reflect on the role of the judiciary in the rule of law based on the realities and challenges of both countries, contributing to a comparative analysis of experiences.
The magistrate added, "This visit will contribute to deepening institutional dialogue, identifying good practices, and strengthening cooperation mechanisms between Angola and Brazil, always with the common objective of better serving justice and citizens." Herman Benjamin, the presiding judge of Brazil's Supreme Court, also urged magistrates to revisit the past judicial system to better build the future.
The meeting focused on practical and theoretical dialogue between the two countries, addressing contemporary challenges, the training of judges, environmental protection, and international cooperation to strengthen the justice system.
