Progress on Nkiende/Kaluka Road Rehabilitation Moves Forward

Mbanza Kongo:Roadworks on the Nkiende/Kaluka route are progressing satisfactorily, with 12 kilometers of the 45-kilometer stretch already worked on since the beginning of this month. This road serves as a vital link between the communes of Nkiende and Kaluka in the municipality of Mbanza Kongo, as part of the Provincial Government of Zaire's program to rehabilitate secondary and tertiary roads.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the ongoing work involves earthmoving on the road section, which also serves as an access point to the neighboring province of Uíge. To evaluate the progress, the provincial governor, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, inspected the site last weekend and received detailed updates from the construction company on the current state of the project.

The rehabilitation works, which are expected to last four months, include traffic adjustments to enhance the movement of people and goods. The road features two lanes, each measuring three meters and 50 centimeters in width.

Additionally, the Provincial Government is committed to improving the road network connecting the provincial capital, Mbanza Kongo, to municipal headquarters and the communes. As part of these efforts, the road linking Mbanza Kongo to the municipality of Cuimba, spanning approximately 62 kilometers, is also undergoing rehabilitation. This project extends to the border town of Buela, covering a total distance of 115 kilometers, and will result in a paved road.
