The Government has installed Public Wi-Fi in Masii market, Mwala Sub County, Machakos county, which will help curb insecurity in the area.
The free Wi-Fi will help the security teams and people in Masii and Mwala be alerted in case any crime is committed and will be able to respond at the appropriate time.
Machakos County Commissioner Josephine Ouko was speaking during the launch of the free Wi-Fi in Masii market by the Information, Communication, and Digital Economy CS Eliud Owalo.
Ouko hailed the government for bringing Wi-Fi to Masii because her security team will open up several groups and interact with villagers to help curb the rising cases of cattle rustling in the area.
She added that the Wi-Fi will help local business persons in Masii to expand their business by selling online.
‘This Wi-Fi will not only benefit the business people, but also the security in the area will improve, we know there has been cattle theft in Masii and the internet will help track such cases,’ added the County Commissioner.
Ouko requested that the internet be extended to the Masii School and a nearby youth center so that it can create employment for the youth.
Present during the occasion was Mwala Member of Parliament Vincent Musyoka Kawaya who said that the Public Wi-Fi will be of great use to the people of Mwala because they are the pioneers in matters of technology.
Musyoka emphasized that Mwala was at the forefront of launching the Digital Bursary Application Management system, which has since been adopted by more than 20 constituencies.
He added that years ago, he started the initiative to build the innovation hubs, which would connect to the internet and then trained the youths to take advantage of the opportunity and empower themselves.
Musyoka further pointed out that his office has committed resources of around Sh4.6 million to build computer labs in Masii, which is to start in less than a month, so the free Wi-Fi will be a boost for the computer labs, thus uplifting the economy in Mwala.
He requested CS Owalo to expand the internet connection beyond 100 meters so that it can reach the neighboring schools, colleges, and homes.
Musyoka urged Machakos residents to support the current government, since it had brought a lot of changes and development to Machakos people.
Others present included the Foreign Affairs and Diaspora CS Dr. Alfred Mutua and Mwala MCA Douglas Muema.
