Rabies Vaccination Campaign Reaches 15,000 Animals in Matala

Luanda: Health authorities in the municipality of Matala, Huíla Province, have successfully vaccinated 15,000 domestic animals, including dogs, cats, and monkeys, from Wednesday to Sunday as part of an anti-rabies campaign under the slogan 'Vaccinated Animals, Safe Humans'. The campaign primarily aimed at preventing the transmission of infectious diseases from animals to humans to safeguard public health. According to Angola Press News Agency, the municipal director of Agriculture and Forestry, Bernardo Chicomo, disclosed the information on Monday. He confirmed that the campaign was conducted without any incidents. During the initial phase, mobile teams were strategically deployed to cover various locations and neighborhoods across the municipality. Bernardo Chicomo emphasized that animal vaccination is the most effective method to prevent rabies, a disease that is serious and almost always fatal. He highlighted that in the first half of this year, the municipality, which has a population of 250,000, record ed eight human cases of rabies, an increase of two cases compared to the same period in 2025, all of which resulted in death.
