The investigating judge at the Tunis Court of First Instance began interrogating Ennahdha leader Rached Ghannouchi and those arrested with him, lawyer Monia Bouali, a member of the Defence lawyers group said on Wednesday. The lawyer told TAP by phone the suspects, including Rached Ghannouchi, have been put on trial for “conspiracy against state security” based on Articles 68 and 72 of the penal code. Head of the Ennahdha movement, Rached Ghannouchi, was arrested based on an arrest warrant issued by the public prosecutor’s office at the judicial counter-terrorism division, an official from the interior ministry had told TAP. He will remain at the disposal of the investigation in a case of “inflammatory comments.» The police unit that arrested Rached Ghannouchi searched his home and seized everything that could be used in the investigation. In a statement on Monday evening, the Ennahdha movement called for the immediate release of its president, Rached Ghannouchi, who was arrested and taken “to an unknown location”.
