SNJT’s Jlassi accuses world powers of blocking case on murder of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh

President of the National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT) Yessine Jlassi accused countries and influential parties in the world of blocking the case that the SNJT, the Palestinian Journalists’ Union and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) submitted to the International Criminal Court on the murder, on May 11, 2022, of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.

Jlassi pointed out that to this day, and despite all the efforts made by international and local organisations, Israeli criminals and terrorists continue to enjoy immunity and impunity and continue to commit crimes against the Palestinian people.

The SNJT, the Palestinian Journalists’ Union, the IFJ and other professional structures in many countries have filed a case against Israel at the International Criminal Court following the assassination of Shireen Abu Akleh.

Jlassi regretted the attempts of some countries and spheres of influence at the international level to protect the perpetrators and grant them impunity.

He reaffirmed the solidarity of the Tunisian press, Tunisian civil society and all the Tunisian people with the Palestinian people in their struggle to regain their rights.

The SNJT president voiced loyalty to the memory of Abu Akleh, who was shot dead while covering operations carried out by the Israeli army in the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank, Palestine.

Earlier in the day, journalists and civil society activists rallied outside the SNJT headquarters in Tunis to commemorate the first anniversary of the assassination by the Israeli army of Shireen Abu Akleh, a Palestinian journalist working for Al-Jazeera news channel.
