Social Security Raises Awareness Among Gambos Merchants on Social Protection

Gambos: The National Social Security Institute (INSS) in the province of Huíla has successfully raised awareness among more than 90 wholesalers, retailers, and buyers at the Gambos municipal market regarding the importance of joining the social security system. According to Angola Press News Agency, the initiative, which took place last Friday, was aimed at clarifying the application of Presidential Decree No. 295/20, dated November 18. This decree establishes the Extension of Mandatory Social Protection to Workers in Low-Income Activities, particularly within the agriculture, fishing, and small economic sectors. Developed by INSS officials and technicians in Huíla, the awareness campaign was part of the institution's broader strategy to support traders. The campaign focused on helping these merchants understand the procedures for registration, thereby enabling them to benefit from social protection. This was highlighted in a statement from the Gambos administration. As part of the INSS's work agenda in th e municipality, a meeting was also held with local administrative authorities. During the meeting, various perspectives were exchanged regarding the awareness-raising actions that the INSS has been implementing. Gambos, located 156 kilometers south of Lubango, is home to an estimated population of 109,738 inhabitants.
