Toulouse: Angolan Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, M¡rio Oliveira, stated on Monday in France that the start of the ANGEO-1 project represents a decisive step in consolidating the Angolan space program. Speaking at the Airbus Defence and Space facilities in Toulouse, during the ceremony to mark the construction and launch of the ANGEO-1 Earth Observation satellite, the minister highlighted its significance in leveraging space technologies for Angola's sustainable development.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the minister emphasized in a press release that the ANGEO-1 satellite will enhance Angola's ability to access high-resolution images, crucial for better management of the country's territory and natural resources, and for supporting data-driven public policies. He pointed out that the collaboration with Airbus Defence and Space reflects international trust in Angola's space ambitions and aims to boost national skills, technological innovation, and economic opportunities.
Airbus Executive Vice President of Space Systems, Alain Faur©, expressed his honor in backing Angola's vision, noting that Airbus will deliver one of the region's most sophisticated satellites, which will aid Angola's socio-economic development and strategic projects. He remarked that the ANGEO-1 project marks a significant step towards utilizing space technology as a tool for digital transformation, innovation, and national sustainability.
The visit by the Angolan delegation, led by Minister Oliveira, underscores the project's official commencement for the ANGEO-1 satellite's construction and launch. This visit highlights the strategic priority Angola places on technological sovereignty and advancing its national space agenda.
The Angolan delegation includes key officials such as Laldemira Nambala, Director of the Minister's Office; Zolana Joo, Director-General of the National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN); Vanya Pereira, Deputy Director-General for Scientific and Technical Area of GGPEN; Amaro Joo, Technical Director of the GGPEN Satellite Control Center; and Luciano Lupedia, Manager of the ANGEO-1 Project. The high-performance ANGEO-1 satellite will be developed by Airbus using its state-of-the-art S250 optical platform.
