Luanda: The financial inclusion rate in Angola currently stands at around 50%, and a significant increase is expected by 2027, within the framework of the National Financial Inclusion Strategy, the Governor of the National Bank of Angola (BNA), Manuel Tiago Dias, stated Monday.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the Central Bank leader, who was speaking at the opening of the 14th edition of Global Money Week, mentioned that financial inclusion remains a challenge for the country. The strategy is considered a relevant milestone in the economic and social development agenda.
The governor highlighted that the strategy could play a structuring role in promoting financial education in Angola. It aims to combine measures to expand access to the financial system with initiatives to empower the population. This approach is expected to gradually raise levels of financial literacy, expand economic inclusion, and strengthen citizens' participation in the formal economy.
Furthermore, the BNA plans to continue educating children, teenagers, and young people about the value of money as a tool for financial education. This effort aims to raise awareness among these segments about the need to save, avoid excessive debt, develop skills for investment and entrepreneurship, and establish relationships with financial institutions while defending the rights of consumers of financial products and services.
Governor Dias emphasized that discussing money openly and accurately enhances capability, avoids mistakes, and fosters healthy financial habits contributing to a stable and prosperous life.
The Vice-Governor of Luanda Province for the Political and Social Sector, Manuel Gon§alves, also highlighted the importance of Global Money Week in strengthening young people's skills in savings processes. Global Money Week (GMW), initiated by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) since 2012 in 176 countries, aims to raise awareness about the importance of financial literacy.
This year's Global Money Week is conducted under the motto "Smart Conversations about Money," featuring educational and recreational activities on "financial system," "responsible money management," and "safe use of new digital payment technologies." All provincial delegations of the National Bank of Angola are participating, in partnership with banking institutions and regulators of the Angolan financial system.
