Luanda: The Municipal Administration of Soyo in the Zaire province has officially issued an order prohibiting land burning and tree felling without prior authorization from local authorities. This measure was announced as part of efforts to address environmental concerns within the region.
According to Angola Press News Agency, municipal administrator Jos© Mendes Belo emphasized that the initiative aims to protect local flora and fauna from the impacts of widespread forest destruction. The towns most significantly affected by this environmental challenge include Lumueno, Nfinda Nkunku, and Cavalos. These areas have seen considerable forest devastation, largely due to charcoal production activities.
The authorities have identified that individuals involved in these activities include both Portuguese citizens and foreigners from the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo. Such practices are considered major contributors to deforestation and ecosystem degradation in the region. In response, the local government is actively encouraging the community to report any violations of the new regulation, as part of a broader effort to preserve the environment and ensure sustainable natural resource management.
