Seoul: Minister of Foreign, T©te Ant³nio met today, Monday, in Seoul with former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to discuss the main challenges facing Africa, highlighting conflicts in various regions of the continent and the situation in the Middle East. The courtesy meeting took place on the sidelines of the Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of African Countries and the Republic of Korea.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the two entities exchanged views on business opportunities and strategic partnerships between Africa and Asia, as well as on strengthening cultural and educational exchange. On this occasion, T©te Ant³nio emphasized the importance of continuous investment in specialized training and the education sector, considering them essential pillars for sustainable growth and the preparation of future generations.
The governor also highlighted the relevance of Ban Ki-moon's international experience and the contribution he could make to increase the visibility of African issues in global forums. Additionally, T©te Ant³nio invited the former Secretary-General of the United Nations to travel to Luanda to participate in the Luanda Biennial - Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace, to discuss the role of the African Union and the African Architecture for Governance, Development, and Peace in promoting stability and development on the continent.
The meeting also allowed for a discussion of the mediation efforts developed by Angola in resolving conflicts in Africa, as well as the work of the President of the Republic, Joo Louren§o, as Champion of the African Union for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa. In turn, Ban Ki-moon acknowledged Angola's commitment to promoting peace, stability, and dialogue, and also recalled T©te Ant³nio's contribution to the United Nations during his time in that international organization.
The two interlocutors also recalled moments of collaboration they maintained within the United Nations and reiterated the importance of multilateralism and international cooperation to respond to current global challenges. Ban Ki-moon was the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations, a position he held between 2007 and 2016. After the end of his term, he maintained an active participation in international initiatives related to peace, sustainable development, and global governance.
