Luanda: The Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, has stated that the 17th United States of America (USA)-Africa Business Summit, currently underway in Luanda, will enhance the visibility of the work conducted by the oil sector on a global scale. The summit, which will continue until the 25th, is set to present several panels at both institutional and private levels, showcasing Angola's potential to attract investors in the oil and gas sector.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the minister emphasized the oil and gas sector as a prime example of cooperation between Angola and the United States. He noted that while this sector is a focal point, there is also a push to encourage investment in other mineral resources. Highlighting this cooperation, he recalled a 2022 agreement between the Geological Institute of Angola and the United States Geological Survey aimed at enhancing knowledge of Angola's critical minerals, which could pave the way for business partnerships.
The summit, organized under the theme "Pathways to Prosperity" by the Corporate Council on Africa in partnership with the Angolan Government, is attracting 2,600 participants and 55 exhibitors from sectors such as energy, agriculture, infrastructure, industry, logistics, tourism, and technology. For four days, discussions will focus on trade development, investment, and economic partnerships in areas crucial to African development, including electricity, infrastructure, agribusiness, digital technologies, health, and creative industries.
The program includes high-level plenary sessions, sectoral dialogues, private roundtables, networking sessions, and an exhibition of technological solutions. This year's summit coincides with Angola's 50th anniversary of national independence, to be commemorated on November 11.
Since its inception in 1997, the Corporate Council on Africa has hosted sixteen editions of the U.S.-Africa Business Summit, alternating between locations in the United States and African countries such as South Africa, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Morocco, and Botswana.
