18 Groups Compete in Historic Moxico Leste Provincial Carnival

Moxico leste: At least 18 carnival groups from classes A and B are set to compete in the 2026 edition of the provincial carnival in Moxico Leste province. This marks the first edition of the provincial parade since the region was elevated to provincial status on December 30, 2024, following the new Political-Administrative Division of the country. According to Angola Press News Agency, the event is seen as a historic and symbolic moment for the newly established province. Through this cultural manifestation, Moxico Leste reaffirms its identity, unity, and traditional richness. The carnival brings together adult and children's groups from the province's nine municipalities, providing a platform to showcase local traditions with traditional dances and songs. The Mukixi, a clown figure, is highlighted as one of the cultural symbols of the region. The province of Moxico Leste was officially created on September 5, 2024, under Angola's New Political-Administrative Division. It is located in the far east of Angol a, approximately 1,500 kilometers from the capital, Luanda. The province is bordered by Lunda-Sul to the north, Moxico to the west and south, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia to the east. Moxico Leste is home to 411,074 people residing in nine municipalities: Caianda, Cameia, Cazombo (the provincial capital), Lago Dilolo, Lóvua do Zambeze, Macondo, Luacano, Luau, and Nana Candundo.
