African U20 Rugby Championship: Tunisia step up their preparations


Tunis: Tunisia’s U20 rugby team will take part in the African Rugby Championship in Zimbabwe, in the second half of April with the aim of qualifying for the World Rugby Championship in South Africa in July.

Tunisian Rugby Federation’s technical director, Noureddine Amara, told TAP Monday the national team is currently in a training camp in Tunisia until March 30, under the guidance of French coach Stéphane Ferriere.

He added that the national technical staff will draw up a list of the 26 players who will take part in the African championship, and that the preparation programme for the continental event will include a second training camp in Tunisia from July 14 to 17.

Amara said the Tunisian team will be strengthened by three professional players playing in the French championship, with the aim of finishing first and qualifying for the next edition of the World Championship.

Tunisia, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Namibia will take part in the African Championship. The national team will kick off against Zimbabwe on
April 20, with the second match against Kenya on April 24 and the third against Namibia on April 28. The winners will qualify for the U-20 World Cup in South Africa.
