Luanda: The Minister of Public Works, Urban Planning, and Housing, Carlos dos Santos, announced on Monday that road infrastructure developments in the province of Icolo e Bengo are being adjusted to meet the standards of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. These adaptations are crucial to ensuring that the roads align with the regional characteristics.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the minister emphasized that the primary concerns during the contracting phase of these roads, which serve as major connectors between the country's north and south, as well as the west and east, are the strict execution, quality assurance, and longevity of the roads. Additionally, there is a strong focus on enhancing oversight throughout the process.
Dos Santos also pointed out that the projects are being executed by national companies, which not only boosts employment but also bolsters the national industry by using locally sourced materials.
Icolo e Bengo, a newly established province under Angola's Political-Administrative Division (DPA), was approved by the National Assembly on August 14, 2024. Catete serves as the capital of this province, which encompasses seven municipalities, 11 communes, and hosts an estimated population of 131,268 over an area of 3,819 square kilometers.
The region has gained recognition for its industrial growth, hosting facilities such as beverage factories, including Coca-Cola, automobile assembly plants, food processing units, and agricultural activities.
