Angola and Algeria Strengthen Partnership with Signing of 11 Agreements

Algiers: Angola and Algeria gave a new impetus to bilateral relations on Monday with the signing of 11 legal instruments in the fields of Oil and Gas, Transport, Mining, Water Resources, among other areas. Agreements were also signed in the sectors of Pharmaceutical Industry, Veterinary Health, Vocational Training, Postal Services, and Telecommunications.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the agreements were signed in Algiers, in the presence of the Angolan President Joo Louren§o, and his Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune. This move underscores the political commitment of both states to deepen economic, technical, and institutional cooperation.

Among the instruments signed are also Memoranda of Understanding between the Diplomatic Institutes of the two countries and between the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency and the Angolan Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency (AIPEX). These are aimed at strengthening business partnerships and boosting private investment.

The 11 agreements are part of a set of 24 instruments currently under negotiation between the parties, within the framework of strengthening bilateral cooperation in sectors considered strategic for the economic and social development of both nations.

Relations between Angola and Algeria trace back to the period of the National Liberation Struggle, during which the Algerian state provided political, diplomatic, and military support to Angolan nationalist movements. Following the proclamation of National Independence in November 1975, the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1976 and consolidated cooperation with the signing of the General Agreement on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, initialed in Luanda on April 15, 1983.

Since then, Angola and Algeria have been strengthening partnerships in the sectors of energy, oil and gas, mineral resources, agriculture, education, transport, defense, and technical-professional training. In recent years, the two states have intensified political consultations and bilateral contacts, notably with the signing, in April 2025, of a Memorandum of Understanding on the creation of a permanent Political Consultation Mechanism between the two countries.
