Angola Joins UN Tourism’s International Investment Platform

Luanda: The Angolan Government has recently formalized Angola's status as a co-founder of the new global platform launched by UN Tourism (formerly the UN World Tourism Organization), known as "UNT-PASS," aimed at promoting international tourism investment. This decision, authorized by Presidential Order No. 247/26 of June 22, positions Angola among the pioneers in building a new multilateral platform designed to connect tourism projects with institutional investors on a global scale, according to a press release sent to ANGOP this Wednesday.

According to Angola Press News Agency, this move formalizes the country's participation in the international initiative alongside the United Arab Emirates (UAE), further reinforcing Angola's position as a leader in the transformation of tourism across Africa. By becoming the first African country to join as a co-founder of UNT-PASS, Angola strengthens its standing as a key promoter of African tourism and affirms its intention to play an active role in shaping the future of the sector on the continent.

The initiative also reflects the Government's commitment to economic diversification, attracting private investment, and the sustainable development of national tourism assets. More than just a promotional platform, UNT-PASS will enable the structuring and presentation of major Angolan tourism projects in line with international investment standards, making them more attractive to multilateral development banks, sovereign wealth funds, and international private investors, the statement notes.

The decision will also help transform tourism opportunities into bankable projects, enhancing Angola's capacity to mobilize private capital for infrastructure development, tourism ventures, and new hubs of economic growth. According to UN Tourism estimates, the priority projects currently identified for inclusion in the platform represent an investment potential exceeding 950 million euros. Structuring and promoting these opportunities through UNT-PASS will significantly boost their international visibility and facilitate access to investors capable of supporting their realization.

Angola's integration into UNT-PASS represents a continuation of the strengthened strategic cooperation between the country and UN Tourism. With this pioneering step, Angola reinforces its position as a premier tourism investment destination in Africa and establishes itself as a key player in shaping and defining the future of African tourism, contributing to a greater presence for the continent in major international development and investment initiatives.
