Banjul: The Secretary of State for Family and Women's Promotion, Alcina Kindanda, reaffirmed Angola's commitment to the promotion and protection of women's rights during a session in Banjul, Gambia. She emphasized Angola's dedication at a panel focused on the Maputo Protocol, which took place at the 87th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights.
According to Angola Press News Agency, a press release from the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Women's Promotion indicated that Angola ratified the Maputo Protocol in 2007 without reservations, reinforcing its commitment to gender equality and the defense of women's rights across Africa. Alcina Kindanda highlighted the progress Angola has made through public policies and legal instruments designed to combat domestic violence, promote equality, and strengthen both social and legal protections for victims. Key initiatives include Family Counseling Centers, Family Rooms in courts, and the SOS Domestic Violence hotline.
Furthermore, Kindanda reaffirmed Angola's willingness to continue collaborating with the African Commission, Member States, and civil society to fast-track the implementation of the Maputo Protocol and the objectives outlined in Agenda 2063. She encouraged other countries present at the session to adopt the Maputo Protocol without reservations.
The session took place under the theme "Ensuring the Sustainable Availability of Water and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Objectives of Agenda 2063".
