Angola Seeks Technological Development for Its Digital Transformation

Luanda: The Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media, Mario Oliveira, on Thursday in Luanda said the government is committed to consolidating and strengthening technological development, with a view to transforming digital technology into benefits for all citizens. Speaking at the opening of the 16th edition of the Luanda Telecommunications Institute's Technological Innovation Fair (FITITEL), the minister emphasized that this is an event where the foundations are laid for start-ups that could be the driving force behind Angola's digital economy tomorrow.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the event reflects the Angolan government's commitment to consolidating and strengthening technological development and reflects the continuity of a strategic vision that places technical education and innovation at the center of building an inclusive, sustainable, and competitive Angola. 'FITIT is now more than just an academic fair. It is a living laboratory of creativity and innovation, where academia, youth, institutions, and the business sector come together to present solutions capable of responding to the challenges of our time,' the minister said.

The minister highlighted the importance of partner companies and exhibitors participating in this edition, as they are the ones who, alongside ITEL, ensure knowledge transfer, promote applied research, drive start-ups, and strengthen the innovation ecosystem in Angola. Mario Oliveira reaffirmed that MINTTICS, through this initiative, will continue to provide the strategic guidance and institutional framework necessary for ITEL and FITITEL to fulfill their mission.

The 16th edition of the Luanda Telecommunications Institute's Technological Innovation Fair (FITITEL) runs until next Saturday and features 44 projects by students from ITEL's three courses, namely Computer Science and Multimedia Systems, Computer Science and Electronics, and Telecommunications. The event also includes lectures, round tables, mini-courses, among other attractions, with the participation of 10 start-ups and 10 companies presenting their solutions in different fields.

Among the topics to be discussed at the event are 'The role of digital transformation in Angola's economic and social development,' 'Technological innovation at the service of health in Angola,' and 'Human capital development in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI).' Promoted by the Luanda Telecommunications Institute (ITEL), with support from the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media (MINTTICS), FITITEL aims to showcase the skills and competencies that students have acquired during their training, presenting solutions that address economic and social problems.

Originally known as the 'ITEL Fair,' the exhibition is an annual event that for more than 15 years has been a platform for showcasing academic achievements.
