New york: The minister of Social Action, Family and Women's Promotion (MASFAMU), Ana do Sacramento Neto, emphasized the importance of discussing female leadership at the United Nations. This discussion holds particular significance as the current Secretary-General is in the final year of his second term. According to Angola Press News Agency, the minister's remarks were made during the Annual Ministerial Dialogue of the Friends Group on Gender Parity, which carried the theme "Promoting Gender Balance in Global Leadership: Reflections on the Selection of the Secretary-General in 2026." She highlighted Angola's dedication to fostering gender parity in global leadership, aligning with the ongoing commitment to the Beijing Platform for Action and maintaining its importance within the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The minister pointed out that despite advancements over the past decades, women's representation in top political and institutional decision-making roles still does not mirror the potential and diversity of societies. She suggested that electing a woman as the Secretary-General of the United Nations could significantly advance the gender equality agenda and enhance women's representation in global leadership. The Annual Ministerial Dialogue of the Friends Group on Gender Parity was presided over by the President of the UN General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock. This initiative was led by the Permanent Missions of Qatar and Rwanda to the United Nations.
