Luanda: The Speaker of Angola National Assembly, Ado de Almeida, engaged in discussions on Angolan-Russian parliamentary cooperation with a delegation from the International Affairs Committee of the State Parliament of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the meeting involved a dialogue with Chepa Alexei Vasilyvich, the First Vice-President of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian Parliament and member of the Russian Union of Angolan Veterans, along with Rybchuk Nikolai Aleksandrovich, Vice-President of the Russian Union of Angolan Veterans. Chepa Vasilyvich stated that the discussions focused on the development of cooperation between the parliaments of Russia and Angola, emphasizing the active and longstanding nature of their relationship, which holds promising prospects for future continuity.
Chepa Vasilyvich noted that in various international forums, Russian and Angolan parliamentarians have shown alignment in their positions. He underscored the shared values between the two nations, including the defense of sovereignty, independence, mutual respect, and a commitment to the development and prosperity of their societies.
Vasilyvich further explained that there was an exchange of working opinions and discussions about participation in previous parliamentary platforms. He stressed the importance of ongoing cooperation between the parliamentary friendship groups of the Russian Parliament and the National Assembly of Angola, as well as different committees within the two institutions.
The relationship between Angola and Russia is rooted in a history of 50 years, beginning with Angola's independence on November 11, 1975. Despite the current phase of strategic readjustment due to the international situation, these historical ties continue to underpin their bilateral relations.
