Luanda: At least 358 military personnel and 46 institutions were decorated in Luanda by the Chief of the General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), Aviation General Altino dos Santos, in recognition of their valuable service to the homeland.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the 4th solemn ceremony of decorations of the military subsystem, decreed by the President of the Republic, Joo Louren§o, was led by the Chief of the General Staff of the FAA. The event was part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the National Air Force, which will be marked on January 21.
Vice Admiral Gon§alo Louren§o de Sousa, speaking at the ceremony to award medals and certificates to active and retired military personnel, totaling 404, highlighted that the action also served to recognize the efforts of those honored in military defense, guaranteeing national unity, and their contribution to achieving peace and national reconciliation.
The high-ranking officer noted that the decorations symbolize recognition by the Angolan State for the professionalism, dedication, sacrifice, and patriotism demonstrated by the military over the past decades. He emphasized that valuing the military career is crucial in strengthening and dignifying the Armed Forces.
The decorations were awarded under Presidential Decree No. 135/25, of July 9, and Presidential Decree No. 268/25, of December 16, in line with the Constitution of the Republic of Angola, which establishes the regime for military decorations of the Angolan Armed Forces.
Military Service Medals were awarded in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd classes, along with the single-class Commemorative Medal of the Angolan Armed Forces in bronze. The distinctions included general officers and admirals, senior officers, captains, junior officers, sergeants, as well as units, establishments, and bodies of the FAA that have shown exemplary performance over the years.
The ceremony also honored deceased military personnel, whose legacy continues to influence the history and consolidation of the Angolan Armed Forces.
