Angolan Diplomat Begins Tenure in Guatemala with Credential Presentation

Guatemala city: The Angolan diplomat residing in Cuba, Carlos Cruz de Lemos Sardinha Dias, delivered copies of his credentials to the Guatemalan Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Julio Eduardo Orozco P©rez, marking the official commencement of his duties as the Head of the Angolan Diplomatic Mission in Guatemala.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the credential presentation ceremony, which took place at the Guatemalan diplomatic headquarters, highlighted the commitment of both nations to strengthen their bilateral relations. The event is set to culminate in the presentation of credentials to the President of Guatemala, C©sar Bernardo Ar©valo de Le³n. The discussions primarily focused on exploring cooperation opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, agro-industry, food security, and technology transfer.

Diplomatic ties between Angola and Guatemala were officially established on September 22, 2023, during the High-Level Week of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly held in New York. During this event, a memorandum of understanding was signed to promote cooperation across various sectors, reinforcing the commitment of both countries to work together.

Guatemala, a Central American nation with a population exceeding 18 million, holds significant economic potential. It is bordered by Mexico to the south and boasts the largest economy in Central America and the ninth largest in Latin America. Agriculture remains the most significant sector of its economy, with Guatemala ranking as the fifth-largest exporter of sugar and the seventh-largest producer of coffee globally.
