Angolan Carmen Mateia Nominated for EMY Africa Awards 2025

Luanda: Carmen Mateia, a young Angolan and the founder of the "Na Fila do Po" employment opportunities league in Angola, was recently nominated for the EMY Africa Awards 2025 in the "Youth Changemaker of the Year" category. The award is one of the most prestigious on the African continent and makes Mateia the first Angolan and the only citizen of a Portuguese-speaking African country to be nominated since its creation in 2015.

According to Angola Press News Agency, a statement from Mateia's office highlights that the award recognizes African personalities who have had a positive impact on their communities. Mateia is competing with nine other candidates for the award due to "the recognition of her tireless work on behalf of Angolan youth."

Founded in Ghana, the organization celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and promotes events such as the "Inspiring Greatness" Forum. It also publishes the EMY Africa magazine, which focuses on figures and ideas that shape modern Africa.
