Angolan Government Emphasizes Balanced Territorial Development

Luanda: The Angolan government, through the Ministry of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing, is reinforcing its commitment to investing in policies and projects aimed at promoting the harmonious and balanced development of the territory. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of life for its citizens, as reported by ANGOP in Luanda.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Ministry released a statement during "Urban October," emphasizing its dedication to advancing the development, approval, and operationalization of land use planning instruments. The Ministry also aims to implement urban requalification and reconversion projects to improve human settlements. One of the highlighted projects is "SONA," which focuses on making urban centers more socially inclusive, economically productive, and environmentally safe.

The Angolan authorities are committed to aligning their efforts with the Long-Term Strategy (LTS) 2050, the National Development Plan (NDP) 2023-2027, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the New Urban Agenda. This alignment aims to create more acceptable urban areas and provide increasingly dignified housing. The Ministry encourages collaboration with partners and the public to foster more inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities for all.

Urban October has been an annual event since 2014, promoted by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) to reflect on cities and human settlements. The event begins on World Habitat Day, observed on the first Monday of October, and concludes on World Cities Day, marked on the 31st of October. This year, UN-Habitat has chosen the themes "Responding to Urban Crises" for World Habitat Day and "Smart, people-centered cities" for World Cities Day, emphasizing the role of technology and innovation in creating inclusive and resilient urban spaces.
