Benguela: The Minister of State for Social Affairs, Maria do Ros¡rio Bragan§a, emphasized the Angolan government's focus on scientific research as a crucial tool to address the nation's social and economic challenges. Speaking on behalf of President Joo Louren§o, she inaugurated the 9th National Science and Technology Conference (CNCT) and the 4th Fair of Ideas, Inventions, Innovation, and Technological-Based Entrepreneurship (FIEBaT).
According to Angola Press News Agency, the minister underscored the importance of knowledge in tackling current challenges, suggesting that these issues should be viewed as opportunities for fostering applied scientific research and innovation. Her remarks highlighted the government's commitment to leveraging science as a means to drive progress and development.
The minister also stressed the importance of fostering a scientific culture among citizens. She called for collaborative efforts within the National System of Science, Technology and Innovation (SNCTI) to raise scientific awareness, which she believes is crucial for empowering communities to become proactive agents of change. By promoting scientific literacy, she argued, communities could better address social and environmental challenges creatively and effectively.
In discussing sustainable development, the minister noted Angola's strides in creating an environment favorable to science and technology, as outlined in the Angola 2050 Long-Term Strategy. She emphasized the government's recognition that innovation and scientific application are vital to solving social and economic issues, reinforcing the link between scientific advancement and national progress.
The conference, she pointed out, is occurring at a pivotal moment when science is reasserting its role in international diplomacy. However, she also acknowledged that the challenges faced today transcend national boundaries, underscoring the need for a global approach to scientific and technological collaboration.
