Angolan Government Revives Timber Industry with Moss Wood Allocation

Luanda: The Angolan government announced that it has begun the restoration of the timber industry by delivering 18 cubic meters of moss wood to sector operators. 'Today marks the final stage in the processing of this wood for the industries that will transform it into furniture and utensils for the country, such as desks, church pews, and household furniture,' announced the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Isaac dos Anjos, in the province of Icolo e Bengo.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the minister spoke to the press at the end of his visit to the Maria Teresa Forest Products Warehouse, where several batches of wood from various species are stored. He emphasized the importance of delivering the 18 cubic meters of moss wood to the industry, highlighting the government's commitment to revitalizing the sector.

The minister further explained that there are two lots in total, supposedly from two Chinese companies, currently under injunction due to ownership claims. Mr dos Anjos underscored the government's decision to suspend and prohibit the export of this type of wood, mandating its conversion within the national industry. He stated that any resistance to this decision conflicts with government policy.

Mr dos Anjos assured that the lots under injunction would remain as such to allow the legal process to unfold. He reaffirmed the government's determination to proceed with the restoration initiative, stating, 'We are here only to say that none of this will stop us.'
