Maputo: Angolan National Assembly Speaker Ado de Almeida on Monday in Maputo advocated for the need to build reconciled societies, where the work and constructive ideas of all are considered in the process of nation-building. He noted that when any demagogic lie prevails over institutional truth, democrats should be concerned, because there is no solid democracy without credible institutions.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Ado de Almeida emphasized the importance of transitioning from conflict to dialogue, highlighting the necessity for cooperation over competition on a global scale. He called for profound reforms in the world order, particularly in political, diplomatic, economic, and financial domains. Almeida stressed the importance of re-evaluating global strategic decision-making mechanisms to ensure Africa's dignified and relevant place in them, criticizing the existing model of the United Nations Security Council for its exclusion of adequate African representation.
Almeida pointed out that maintaining the current structure of the UN Security Council is anachronistic and fails to provide representation for approximately 1.5 billion citizens from Africa, a continent that is not only the second most populous but also rapidly growing. He urged Parliaments to unite in advocating for significant reforms in global governance systems, advocating for Africa to actively participate rather than merely observe from afar.
During his speech in the Mozambican parliament, Almeida underlined the importance of Africa's active involvement in global matters. Angola and Mozambique continue to strengthen their parliamentary cooperation, focusing on legislative and institutional practices, training, and capacity building. The nations collaborate closely in regional and international organizations such as the SADC Parliamentary Forum and the Pan-African Parliament, championing common interests in development, peace, and regional security.
