Algiers: President Joo Louren§o on Wednesday emphasized the necessity of strengthening dialogue among cultures, peoples, and different religious denominations to maintain world peace and harmony. This sentiment was expressed during his visit to the Grand Mosque of Algeria, a significant religious site on the African continent, as part of his official visit to Algeria.
According to Angola Press News Agency, President Louren§o expressed gratitude for the opportunity extended to him, the First Lady, and the Angolan delegation to visit the mosque. He underscored the importance of mutual understanding among peoples and affirmed his belief that engagement among varied cultures, peoples, and religions contributes to world peace and enhances harmony among nations.
The Angolan President stressed the shared responsibility of political and religious leaders in contributing to universal peace. Despite their different spheres of influence, he emphasized the need for collaboration towards common goals, such as promoting stability, peaceful coexistence, and the overall well-being of humanity.
The Grand Mosque of Algeria, also known as DjamaS El Djazar, is recognized as a key architectural and religious landmark in Algeria, notable for its size and cultural significance within the Islamic world. Mohamed Maamoun, the director general of the mosque, highlighted the historical ties between Angola and Algeria, noting that the mosque serves as a meeting point for peoples and cultures, fostering civilized, cultural, and religious dialogue.
The director asserted that President Louren§o’s presence at the mosque reaffirms its mission as a platform for fostering connections among African peoples and enhancing friendship and cooperation. He pointed out that advancing bilateral relations between Angola and Algeria paves the way for promising futures for both nations and the African continent. Maamoun emphasized the importance of Africa leveraging its natural resources for the benefit of its peoples, aiming for shared prosperity across its states.
