Angolan State Allocates Over Seven Billion AKZ Annually for Public Sector Salaries

Luanda: The Angolan state spends more than seven billion kwanzas annually on salaries and benefits for civil servants and administrative agents registered under the general and special civil service regimes. Secretary of State for Public Administration, Domingos Filipe, shared this information on Monday in Luanda during the 12th Briefing of the Ministry of Public Administration, Labor, and Social Security (MAPTSS). He added that there are currently 426,632 civil servants.

According to Angola Press News Agency, of the total number of civil servants, 96,645 are employed by the central administration and 329,987 by the local administration. Filipe noted that the annual growth in the Public Administration between 2023 and 2024 recorded a 4.5% increase in the number of employees, marking the largest increase in recent years and demonstrating the strengthening of the regularization of employment relationships.

The source further highlighted that in 2024, the special regime accounted for 270,150 civil servants, representing 61% of the workforce, while the general regime included 106,855 civil servants, representing 25% of the total workforce. Management and leadership positions were held by 59,627 employees, making up 14% of the total workforce.

Filipe also pointed out the male predominance in the civil service, with 56.5% male and 43.5% female employees. He emphasized the need to implement recruitment and promotion policies that enhance equal opportunities between genders, contributing to a more balanced framework in public production.
