Luanda: At least 96 new health specialists in various fields completed on Tuesday a specialized technical training course in the Icolo e Bengo province, promoted by the Health Ministry (MINSA).

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Implementation Unit of the Human Resources Training Project for Universal Health Coverage (UIP-PFRHS) conducted the one-year training course, which included doctors from 15 provinces. This initiative aimed to enhance the technical and care capacity of the National Health System.

The newly trained specialists comprise 10 anesthesiologists and resuscitators, one general surgeon, one dermatologist, three pediatric surgeons, nine gynecologists and obstetricians, one vascular surgeon, and three dermatologists. Additionally, the course produced seven general and family medicine doctors, eight intensive care doctors, four neurologists, ten internal medicine doctors, one neurosurgeon, eight ophthalmologists, and six orthopedic surgeons.

In further detail, the new cadre of specialists includes 18 pediatricians, five psychiatrists, three urologists, and one pulmonologist. The provinces represented in this training effort include Luanda, Bengo, Huambo, Benguela, Cuanza Norte, Cunene, Hu­la, Lunda Sul, Lunda Norte, Malanje, Moxico, U­ge, Zaire, and Icolo e Bengo, underscoring the strategic importance of this initiative for the country's health sector.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, the country currently boasts around 10,000 doctors, a testament to the ongoing efforts to strengthen the healthcare workforce.
